VISTING PHD STUDENT PROGRAM – SINAS, UPPSALA UNIVERSITY

 

Dear all,

 

We’re pleased to announce this year’s Call for Applications for our Visiting PhD student program for the 2026 spring semester.

Uppsala University’s Swedish institute for North American Studies (SINAS) is offering visitinggrants for 1–3 PhD students for up to 4 weeks stay in Uppsala during spring 2026, the exact duration and timing to

be determined in consultation with SINAS.

 

  • SINAS encourages applications from PhD students within the humanities and social sciences who are actively working on their dissertations, and whose research broadly relates to the study of North America. 

 

  • The grant covers travel and accommodation for up to 25.000 SEK. Visting PhD students will be allocated office space and Uppsala University library resources. 

 

  • Applicants should explain how visiting SINAS would benefit their research, including preliminary dates and planned activities (e.g., dissertation writing, archival visits, conducting interviews).

 

  • Visiting PhD students will be requested to present a work-in-progress text at the SINAS research seminar.

 

Applications should include:

• Documented enrollment in PhD program

• Description of PhD project (maximum 1 page)

• CV (maximum 2 pages)

• Preliminary dates of visit and description of planned activities (maximum ½ page)

• Preliminary title and short outline of work-in-progress seminar presentation (maximum ½ page)
