Tο Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών (ΠΜΣ) «Αγγλική Γλώσσα, Γλωσσολογία και
Μετάφραση» του Τμήματος Αγγλικής Γλώσσας και Φιλολογίας, σε συνεργασία με
το Διατμηματικό Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών (ΔΠΜΣ) «Μετάφραση:
Ελληνική, Αγγλική, Ρωσική», διοργανώνει τη σειρά διαλέξεων «Σεμινάρια του
ΠΜΣ/ΔΠΜΣ» σχετικά με θεματικές που αφορούν τη γλώσσα, τη γλωσσολογία και
τη μετάφραση.
Οι επόμενες διαλέξεις για το Εαρινό εξάμηνο θα πραγματοποιηθούν την Πέμπτη,
28 Μαΐου στις 12-2 μμ στην Αίθουσα της Βιβλιοθήκης της Φιλοσοφικής Σχολής
(δίπλα στο Αμφιθέατρο). Θα ακολουθήσει κέρασμα.

"The Syntax of Negation in Romanian from a Comparative Perspective"
This talk offers an overview of the negation system of Romanian and argues
that negation provides a reliable diagnostic for key aspects of clause
structure. Romanian is of special interest in this respect: it displays
strict negative concord, preserves morphosyntactic distinctions among
negative markers (clitic nu vs affixal ne-), and occupies a hybrid
position at the intersection of Romance inheritance and Balkan areal
convergence. The analysis combines synchronic and diachronic perspectives
and situates Romanian within a broader comparative context, with
particular attention to the Balkan Sprachbund.

"The Syntax of Istro-Romanian: Between Romance and Slavonic"
This talk examines the syntax of Istro-Romanian, an endangered Romance
variety spoken in Istria, within the context of intense contact with the
Čakavian dialect of Croatian. Its structural grammar represents a unique
intersection between archaic Romance inheritance and Slavonic syntactic
reinforcement. On the one hand, Istro-Romanian preserves archaic features
from Old Romanian that vanished in the modern language. On the other hand,
interaction with Slavic languages has significantly shaped its clause
structure. Features like interpolation (placing a constituent between an
auxiliary/clitic and the verb) and auxiliary inversion reveal a relaxed V2
grammar where the verb moves to the C-domain. Ultimately, while contact
with Croatian did not completely dictate these structures, it reinforced
overlapping syntactic options that otherwise disappear in standard Romance
languages.
